I saw Superman Returns in a shop on sale for £4, and I thought it was really cheap at that time. I was so excited to finally be able to watch it. It was said that this was really a great movie, so I just had to watch it.

However, after I watched it, I regretted wasting that £4. Firstly, the film was surprisingly boring. I just wanted to skip forward to get to a good point in the film. But I knew that if I did that, I would miss something that would make me completely puzzled (困惑), and then I would have to watch it all over again! I hated the fact that we had to watch Lex Luther plan his scheme (诡计) throughout the movie. In a film like this, I like to be given the chance to try to guess what his scheme is going to be, as it adds to the excitement of the film. In this film, you could guess almost everything that was going to happen. I admit that the acting from Routh was good, but I didn’t really believe the relationship between Superman and Lois Lane. I wanted more secret passion towards the end. And I don’t mean to be rude about the young man who played her son, but I found his performance a bit wooden. I was really disappointed.

To conclude, Superman Returns is basically a waste of £4, but the special effects are wonderful, and the idea behind it is really good. I just wish they had done it differently. 21. Why did the writer watch Superman Returns?

A. Because he thought it would be a very good movie. B. Because he liked the movie very much. C. Because his friends said it was very good. D. Because he had to make remarks on the film.

22. What does the writer think of the film after he watched it?

A. Good. B. Exciting. C. Excellent. D. Disappointed. 23. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A. The writer skipped forward to get to a good point in the film. B. The writer watched the film without missing any part of it. C. Routh is the director of the film.

D. The writer thinks the film is worth watching.

24. Which of the following does the writer think is a good point of the film? A. The beginning of the film is really exciting. B. The end of the film is really moving.

C. The performance of the young actor who played her son is wonderful. D. The special effects are really great.

B (原创)

Some people like modern art, while others say that it is rubbish. But a cleaner who works in the Tate Britain Gallery in London isn’t able to tell the difference. The woman, whose name isn’t known, mistook a work of art by the German painter Gustav Metzger for a bag of rubbish, and threw it out with other bags. The plastic bag, which contained pieces of paper and cardboard, was later recovered outside the gallery, but the artist thought that it was too badly damaged to be put on show again, and so he found another bag. 78-year-old Mr Metzger explained that the exhibit, which he said was a copy of a similar work he had created in 1960, was meant to show that all art is temporary (暂时的) and “finite”.

Embarrassed officials at the museum said that they had had to call a meeting with

cleaners to explain which things should not be touched. They would not say whether Mr Metzger would be paid any compensation (赔偿) for the incident. However, to make absolutely sure the same thing would not happen again, they decided to cover Mr Metzger’s work every evening with a coloured cloth. In this way cleaners arriving after the gallery had closed to the general public would realise that they should not touch it.

This is not the first time that museum cleaners have had trouble distinguishing exhibits from rubbish. In 2001, in another London gallery, a cleaner threw away a work by the well-known British artist Damien Hirst. It was an arrangement of empty beer bottles, coffee cups, and overflowing ashtrays (烟灰缸), which were meant to indicate the chaos in the life of an artist.

However, cleaners don’t always throw things away—sometimes they clean them! This was the case with a dirty bath, which was on show in a gallery in Germany. Without asking what the ban was doing in the gallery, the cleaner simply scrubbed it clean. 25. The woman cleaner threw away the plastic bag because____________. A. the plastic bag was badly damaged B. She didn’t recognize it was a work of art

C. she didn’t like modern art at all and thought it was rubbish D. Mr Metzger had found another bag to replace the exhibit on show

26. The underlined word “distinguishing” in the third paragraph probably means

“___________”.

A. imitating B. exchanging C. replacing D. telling

27. Which of the following statements is NOT TRUE accoridng to the passage?

A. Whether Mr Metzger would be paid any money for the incident was unknown. B. Officials closed the Tate British Gallery to avoid the same thing happening again.

C. An arrangement of empty beer bottles, coffee cups, and overflowing ashtrays was once

designed as a symbol of the life of an artist.

D. More than one cleaner threw away works of art in galleries. 28. What might be the best title for the passage? A. Damaged Modern Art Works B. Good Cleaners Make Mistakes C. Cleaner Thinks Modern Art Is Rubbish D. Dangerous Galleries And Cleaners

The issue(期) of L.A.Youth aimed at marking 25 years of the newspaper produced for teens by teens will also be the end of its run.

The newspaper was printed six times a year and distributed (分发) in schools across Los Angeles County. It was centered on first-person stories of young people. They wrote about themselves, their culture and their neighbourhood.

But L.A.Youth has been troubled by money problems in recent years. In a letter in the Janurary-February issue, founder and Executive Director Donna Myrow wrote about their difficult situation. “ The situation has increased our budget (预算) and placed a huge amount of pressure on the L.A.Youth family,” she wrote. The letter is being printed this week.

L.A.Youth’s board of directors chose Thursday to stop publishing and close by the end

of February. “ It’s over,” Myrow said in an interview. “ We couldn’t raise any more money.”

L.A.Youth operated on a budget of $500,000 a year. It had a circulation (发行量) of

about 70,000, according to Myrow. The newspaper was distributed to the classrooms of more than 1,200 teachers.

“ We put stress on personal journalism, meaning lots of stories starting with the word ‘I’,” Myrow wrote in the letter. “ We filled our pages with pieces that were heartbreaking or encouraging or funny, but always painfully honest. Our writers were encouraged to express their feelings; we wanted their voices to shine through.”

The anniversary (周年纪念) issue—now, its last—includes articles from readers discussing the great effect of having such a special way to express their feelings. Myrow said the end of L.A.Youth will leave a large emptiness for students.

“ No one’s going to be carrying on the work we did,” she said. “ We are unique. You look at that paper. No one else is publishing this.” 29.

In the second half of each year, many powerful storms are born in the tropical Atlantic and Caribbean Sea. Of these, only about half a dozen produce the strong, rotating winds of 75 miles per hour or more that give them hurricane status (身份), and several usually make their way to the coast. There they cause millions of dollars of damage, and bring death to large numbers of people.

The great storms that hit the coast start as innocent rotating disturbances (扰乱) hundreds or thousands of miles out to sea. As they travel aimlessly over water warmed by the summer sun, they are carried westward by the trade winds (信风). When conditions are just right, warm, moist (潮湿的) air flows in at the bottom of such a disturbance, moves upward through it and comes out at the top. In the process, the moisture in this warm air produces rain, and with it the heat is changed into energy in the form of strong winds. As the heat increases, the young hurricane begins to swirl (旋动) in a counter-clockwise (逆时针方向) motion.

The average life of a hurricane is only about nine days, but it contains almost more power than we can imagine. The energy in the heat released (释放) by a hurricane’s rainfall in a single day would satisfy the entire electrical needs of the United States for more than six

months. Water, rather than wind is the main source of death and destruction in a hurricane. A typical hurricane brings 6 to 12-inch downpours resulting in sudden floods. Worst of all is the powerful movement of the sea—the mountains of water moving toward the low pressure hurricane center. The water level rises as much as 15 feet above normal as it moves toward shore.

32. When does an ordinary tropical storm turn into a hurricane?

A. When it begins in the Atlantic and Caribbean Sea. B. When it hits the coastline.

C. When it travels aimlessly over water.

D. When its wind reaches a speed of 75 miles per hour. 33. What is the worst thing about the hurricane?

A. The destructive effect of water. B. The heat it releases. C. It lasts about nine days. D. Strong winds.

34. The counter-clockwise swirling of the hurricane is brought about by __________.

A. the low pressure center of the storm B. the force of waves of water C. the trade winds

D. the increasing heat

35. Which of the following about the hurricane is TRUE?

A. It often occurs around June.

B. It is not so powerful as that of storm born in the Caribbean Sea. C. It usually lasts about nine days.

D. It can be easily forecast and prevented.

A possible version: Dear schoolmates,

As we all know, a terrible earthquake hit Nepal on April 25th, 2015, causing much damage to it.

The disaster has brought about 8,000 deaths and more than 16,500 injuries so far, with a quarter of its population affected by the earthquake. The country suffered a heavy economic loss of up to 5 billion dollars. Many houses have turned into ruins, leaving thousands of people homeless. Also a large number of historical relics were badly damaged.

People in Nepal are in need of help now. So we are here making the suggestion that we should donate some money to them. A small kindness can make a big difference!
