第二部分 阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
21.(6分)There is one type of illness in the world that has a severe effect on more people than anything else and is very deadly. If untreated, this illness could affect everything you do. What is this illness? Depression. Serious depression requires professional treatment. Self-induced depression is something each of us can change. Everyone’s circumstances are different, but the causes of self-induced depression are common: low self-esteem, hurtful thinking and a bad attitude.
So how can we change the way we think, feel, and have a cheerful attitude? First we must look at ourselves, truly and honestly examining our motives for what we wish to accomplish. If you are dissatisfied because you feel you haven’t or can’t do anything, then one step is needed—to set goals.
Always start your goals relatively small and easy to attain. Think of them as sand; one grain may be insignificant(微不足道的) but as a group they form the beach. Once you have set and attained small goals for yourself, move on to slightly larger, more challenging goals. It takes not just setting goals but positive thinking. How can we obtain this?
There are a number of factors that can make us think negatively and one of those is diet.In my opinion, a person who eats a lot of take-out and fast food is feeding their body junk. Start by eating better foods which give the body much NEEDED minerals. If your physical body is happy, it’s much easier for your mental body or “thinking ability” to be happy.[
Next, exercise. Half an hour a day is recommended for positive well-being. Then think about good memories you had, or generally think of things that make you smile. Remember, everything you wear costs money but to wear a smile is free. A smile can be the difference between an average day and a great day. If you follow these steps, positive change is on the way. 1、Which of the statements about depression is TRUE?
A.Depression is a kind of illness that can’t be cured like some cancer. B.Depression can all be cured successfully by doctors in an easy way. C.Those who suffer from depression live in the same circumstances. D.Those who suffer from depression hold negative attitudes.
2、According to the passage we can learn that ________. A.a practical goal can help people to achieve a sense of success B.we shouldn’t be satisfied with small goals that are insignificant C.we should avoid challenging goals that may result in failure D.people can enjoy happiness even if they set inappropriate goals 3、What can we infer from the reading passage?
A.Those who can achieve small goals can surely achieve big ones. B.Depression has something to do with the food people eat.
C.You can only exercise half an hour if you want to get rid of depression. D.Smile makes no sense to the feeling in daily life.

23.(8分)It is widely acknowledged that cities with some kind of functioning ecosystems make for better place for humans to live. More plants and animals in cities make for happier, healthier people.
A study conducted on green spaces in Sheffield, England, for instance, revealed that the greater the biodiversity(生物多样性), the greater the psychological well-being(健康) of the city’s citizens. In Paris, researchers found that getting citizens to take part in day-long activities involving urban wildlife opened their eyes to the natural world for a time, at least.
Few cities have been associated with urban ecology for as long as Berlin. “Slow economic recovery after the Second World War meant that reconstruction would take a long time. This provide local ecologist with the ideal conditions to develop an ambitious ecological research program in the bombed-out wastelands of West Berlin,” said Jens Lachmund, a sociologist at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands.
The pioneering work in Berlin bad several consequences, especially the formation of significant natural spaces within the city, such as the Sudgelande Nature. “Berlin has indeed benefited a lot from being a case study in urban ecology,” said Lachmund.
The recent research conducted by Mark Goddard, a biologist at the University of Leeds, and his colleagues confirmed the importance of natural space within an urban setting. Goddard and his team conducted a striking global analysis of bird and plant diversity, quantifying the influence of urbanization on levels of biodiversity around the world. “Functioning urban ecosystems will be extremely important to human health and
well-being,” said Goddard.
Cities take up just 3% of the land surface area, yet according to the most recent figure from the United Nations, some 3. 6 billion people (just over 50% of the global population) now live in urban areas. By 2050, this figure is expected to rise to 6.3 billion. Without animals and plants to keep us company, it is a dark future.
1、The findings in Paragraph 2 are mentioned to explain the link between . A.Citizens and their well-being B.green spaces and urban wildlife C.urban ecology and citizens’ well-being D.functioning ecosystems and the natural word
2、What would be Goddard’s attitude towards Berlins work? A.Cautious. B.Admiring. C.Uncaring. D.Negative.
3、The author uses figures in the last paragraph to show . A.the negative effect of over population. B.the importance of urban ecosystems. C.the serious problems of city life. D.the rapid growth of urban areas.
4、Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A.Should cities be for animals and plants too? B.Should Berlin have more natural spaces? C.Should more people live in urban areas? D.Should the global population be controlled now?
Tennis great Billie Jean King is a great athlete and a pioneer in sport and 24.(8分)she won four singles titles at the US Open between 1967 and 1974. Now, the same tennis officials with whom she often battled have paid her a special honor. US Open organizers named their venue(会场) the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at the beginning of this year’s championship. The decision came as a surprise to the star.
Billie Jean King had her first tennis lesson at the age of 11, and became interested in it. Six years later she made herself known winning the first of 20 titles at Wimbledon
in the doubles championship. King went on to become the first female athlete to earn $100,000 in a year. But her greatest achievements may have been off the game. She devoted herself to fighting for equal status for women and women in sports that went far beyond tennis.
A unique opportunity arrived and it proved a perfect way for King to further change the place of women in sports in 1973. She was challenged to play a man-tennis great Bobby Riggs. The men organizing the event expected it would provide great entertainment and the event was reported by sportscaster(体育评论员) Howard Cosell. But King found he focused on her appearance, never mentioning her athletic achievements. King saw it as a crossroad in her battle for women’s equality in sports. She did win, further opening opportunities for girls in sports.
But some young female athletes now don’t take these opportunities seriously. When asked what they knew about King, they looked puzzled. “They’ve got many chances to play and it’s a good thing. However, we still have a long way to go for girls and women in sports and that’s what I want—I want the dream to be equal” She said. 1、Billie Jean King fought with tennis officials for . B.being the first athlete to get a yearly income of $100, 000 C.the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center D.her victory in the doubles championship
3、Why was the event with Bobby Riggs organized in 1973? A.To attract more audience for the interests of the organizer. B.To increase Billie King’s fame in the sports field. C.To make the sport tennis popular:
D.To further open chances for women in sports.
4、From the passage, we can learn that Billie King . A.has always been respected and honored in sports from the start

Most of us don’t reach for that gnarled (多节的) carrots when selecting 25.(10分)our produce at the local supermarket. That’s exactly why Americans waste up to 40% of eatable food every year. This unbelievable number has sparked the “ugly food” movement, and inspired many companies to sell misshapen fruit and vegetables to consumers, rather than throw them in the trash.
One San Francisco organization is taking a unique approach to this idea. The Salvage Supperclub hosts fancy dinners inside dumper truck (卸车) where they serve dishes entirely prepared with food that would have otherwise gone to waste.
Josh Treuhaft, founder of these ugly food dinners, originally came up with the idea 10 bring awareness to America’s food waste problem. “There is undeveloped potential in their food that for some reason, not to their own fault, is going to waste,” he told Seeker’s Laura Ling.
Treuhaft isn’t alone in his effort to reduce America’s food waste. A Change, org last year willed for Whole Foods to become part of the ugly food movement. They sold misshapen fruit and vegetables in Northern California stores.
Selling imperfect produce is still relatively rare right now, which can be partially due to a supply issue rather than a lack of willing participants. Raley’s, a Sacramento-based grocery chain, started an ugly food pilot program called “Real Good”, but discontinued it after 90 days saying they had “some challenges sourcing the product”. A grower might have large amounts of ugly produce one year due to terrible weather, but much less the next year if the weather has been more ideal. Harvests constantly vary and retailers are more likely to buy ugly produce in large number rather than just a few pounds at a time.
This is why organizations like Imperfect Produce and Salvage Supperclub are playing an important role in the prevention of food waste. Salvage Supperclub takes it a step further by not only buying the ugly produce, but turning it into a good dining experience as well.
1、What can we infer from Paragraph 1? A.People usually prefer Rood-looking produce.
B.Gnarled carrots mostly appear in the supermarket. C.Many companies find new business opportunities. D.Americans eat less fruit and vegetables than expected.
2、Why does the Salvage Supperclub have dinners inside the dumper truck? A.To prove his fancy idea. B.To remind people not to waste. C.To show waste can be eaten.
D.To advise people lo dine in dumper truck.
3、What’s Josh Treuhaft’s advice to reduce America’s food waste? A.People should reduce the ugly food. B.People should make full use of ugly food. C.People should be more aware of food shortage. D.People should develop their potential in producing food. 4、Why did Raley’s stop its “Real Good” after 90 days? A.Retailers’ pursuing larger profit. B.Bad harvests due to bad weather. C.Lack of steady sources of produce.
D.People’s unwillingness to buy imperfect produce.

29、In recent years, many schools have taken tough measures to forbid students to bring their mobile phones to school. However, some students break this rule and some students even play with their mobile phones in class, which makes the teacher frustrated.
The disadvantages of students bringing mobile phones to school are obvious. On the one hand, mobile phones can distract students' attention. On the other hand, some students may get access to some unhealthy websites, which are bad for their
development. Worse still, some students are likely to compare the brands of their mobile phones with their classmates'.
In my opinion, I strongly support banning mobile phones in schools. Only in this way can we devote more energies to our study and achieve our goals.
