Warming-up & Intensive Reading
Teaching goals:
1. To have a better understanding of the main idea of the passage. 2. To enable the students to talk about computers and robots in English. 3.To enable the students to grasp the progress of computers.

Step 1. Lead-in
Show pictures on the screen and get them to say out the answers to each picture.
An old calculating machine used in China until now. (an abacus)

It is built to solve some easy and simple mathematical problems. But it is as
big as a room. ( a huge computer)
It is a new calculating machine which can solve a large number of
mathematical problems. (a calculater)
It is a personal computer which can solve all kinds of problems and is used
widely now. (personal computers)
Step 2 Pre-reading

Step 3 Skimming

Step 4 Detail Reading (comprehending)
Give students five minutes to read the passage carefully again and do the comprehending questions:
