摘要：The present invention relates generally to novel thymic cellular populationsand, more particularly, to novel thymic epithelial cellular populations. Most particular,the present invention is directed to novel thymic epithelial progenitor cell populations.The cellular populations of the present invention are useful in a wide range of clinical andresearch settings including, inter alia, the in vitro or in vivo generation of thymic epithelialcell populations and the therapeutic or prophylactic treatment of a range of conditionsvia the administration of these cells. Also facilitated is the design of in vitro basedscreening systems for testing the therapeutic impact and/or toxicity of potential
treatment or culture regimes to which thymic epithelial cells may be exposed. In anotheraspect, the present invention is directed to a method of identifying thymic epithelialcellular subpopulations and, more particularly, thymic epithelial progenitors by screeningfor the co-expression of markers including MHC Class II, UEA1 and Ly51. This method isuseful in a range of applications including, but not limited to, assessing or monitoring forthe presence of thymic epithelial cell populations and/or facilitating the isolation of orenrichment for these cellular populations of use in a range of research and clinical
applications.
